24th Spell: [Video]

Why is there no map for this place... You know, I think that's a project that really needs to be undertaken. Maps of all the various caaaaaaaaa- oof!

[Stepping onto one of the ice-covered floors that covers the ice path, Twilight is interrupted by suddenly slipping and sliding all the way over to the wall on the opposite side, which she crashes headlong into.]

Urgh... that was unpleasant. Alright, just need to pay a bit more attention, let's tryyyyyyy- argh!

[Another step has her legs slipping straight out from under her, and she slides across to another corner of the room on her knees, face first. After a highly unpleasant sounding crash, she lets out a low groan and slides down the wall until she's face down, making highly unhappy noises.]

I. Hate. This. Cave.

[As if to add insult to injury, the Pokemon who's been holding the gear this whole time proceeds to step out onto the ice and easily slide its way over to its hapless trainer, holding out the gear.]

What? Oh just... just shut it off, Champ. I don't even want to worry about that map idea until I'm out of this place, now. Oh, my head...

The answer is rather obvious, yes, but I appreciate the concern all the same.

[She rolls over onto her back and groans.]

I should have looked into a pair of ice cleats or something.

You know, I heard that if you walk a bit more like a penguin instead of normal waking, that helps walking on ice better. I've never tried it myself, but that's what I've heard.

I don't know if we're comin' or goin'. This place is a maze.

[She'll do her best to try and help Twilight up, but she's not exactly stable, herself.]

[She's a bit nervous about even taking AJ's hand in their current state, truth be told.]

A maze where it's difficult to even pause and get your bearings, at that.

[She manages to shift into a sitting position so she can take a look around.]

Hmmm... we do have a compass with us, right?

(Rainbow's totally used to crashing, but she slides into view of Twilight on her back, with Tails on her stomach. And she has a grin on her face.)

I need to get out of this horrible cave, that's what I need.

[Groaning feebly, she gives Rainbow a long-suffering look.]

Is this how it feels every time you crash into something?

(She merely grins at Twilight while nodding, pulling herself upright in a seated position as Tails remains in the cyan haired girl's lap.)

Pretty much, even when I first crashed into you the day we met! But I've tried not to crash so much lately.

(A beat.) I think Tails can help us out then, if you really wanna get away from the cave!

[ Snake can only wince with each flop over and his back aches in sympathy... Although he hasn't actually tried to go through the Ice Path yet, but from what he can see, he knows he wouldn't enjoy it. ]

Huh... My sympathies... Where are you anyway?

The Ice Path. It's the only way to get to Blackthorn City, aka the only city we haven't been to yet in Johto.

Clearly, they saved the worst for last.

[She's not even sure if she wants to struggle to her feet or just flop there for a little while.]

Huh. Thought it was just another cave. I guess it makes sense that it's filled with ice. [ And now Snake wants to go there EVEN LESS. ]

Too bad you can't just fly over it.

[...Oh, Twilight. Why didn't you just fly? That's the first thought that pops into Riku's mind, and he rubs at his brow, slightly exasperated. Not at her so much as the situation. After all, that cave's a nightmare made real.]

You got any Pokémon with fire moves on hand? Trust me, the cave's a lot less of a drag if you start melting the floor. It's probably too late to backtrack, or I'd suggest getting out, grabbing a map, and flying over the place.

Either way, take it easy, all right?

[Why because Pokemon can't fly to places they've never been before, of course!

When she finds out this isn't actually the case she is going to scream.]

I did bring Pyrolepi with me. If she can't thaw the place out, no one-

[She turns to fully face the gear, an incredulous expression on her face.]

You can't fly to a place your Pokemon haven't ever been, even with a map... can you?

Technically, you can. It just takes twice as long to get there. About four hours of flying for every day on foot.

[He tries to break this as gently as possible, keeping his tone neutral. Still, he figures this news'll put a damper on her mood, so he'll add:]

If it's any consolation, I didn't know that my first time around. It's why I went through that cave in the first place.

[Watching this whole thing is enough to further solidify the fact Marcia intends to never set foot in a cave if she can help it.]

It's nice to see my aversion to caves isn't unfounded.

[That gets a combination of a laugh and a groan from her. One of those "what is my life" sort of laughs.]

Well, the good news is this is the only cave where this particular problem rears its head.

The bad news is the rest of them are full of Zubat.

...I would offer to assist with that mapping project, but I think this has further cemented my desire to never set foot in that cave at any cost, if I can help it.

Wisdom if ever I heard it. Had I been aware that flying to Blackthorn without my Pokemon having been there on their own was actually a possibility, I can assure you I'd have made the same decision. There aren't even any Pokemon in here I want to catch!

Hey, are you...ok? Can I ask why you are in this cave if it disagrees with you so much?

[She responds to that question with an aggravated sigh and a bitter laugh. This guy must be pretty new.]

Because it's the only path to the next part of my journey. At several points in Johto and Kanto, you'll have to go through caves in order to reach the next city. That's just the way the paths work.

I don't really think anyone enjoys the experience.

A few hours. This is about the third of these patches I've run into and it's easily the biggest. And slipperiest. I really hope this doesn't become a trend.
