Why is there no map for this place... You know, I think that's a project that really needs to be undertaken. Maps of all the various caaaaaaaaa- oof!

[Stepping onto one of the ice-covered floors that covers the ice path, Twilight is interrupted by suddenly slipping and sliding all the way over to the wall on the opposite side, which she crashes headlong into.]

Urgh... that was unpleasant. Alright, just need to pay a bit more attention, let's tryyyyyyy- argh!

[Another step has her legs slipping straight out from under her, and she slides across to another corner of the room on her knees, face first. After a highly unpleasant sounding crash, she lets out a low groan and slides down the wall until she's face down, making highly unhappy noises.]

I. Hate. This. Cave.

[As if to add insult to injury, the Pokemon who's been holding the gear this whole time proceeds to step out onto the ice and easily slide its way over to its hapless trainer, holding out the gear.]

What? Oh just... just shut it off, Champ. I don't even want to worry about that map idea until I'm out of this place, now. Oh, my head...

[Otacon offered a small smile to the rather confused girl. She was in some kind of cave and it looked really interesting to the engineer. An ice cave.]

Hey, are you...ok? Can I ask why you are in this cave if it disagrees with you so much?

[She responds to that question with an aggravated sigh and a bitter laugh. This guy must be pretty new.]

Because it's the only path to the next part of my journey. At several points in Johto and Kanto, you'll have to go through caves in order to reach the next city. That's just the way the paths work.

I don't really think anyone enjoys the experience.

So, you have to take this path to the next part of your journey? There is no other way around? [That sounded like a tough choice to have. Very little choice and she didn't look happy about it one bit.]

This is for your Pokémon journey to gyms am I correct?

Trying to go around would require traversing a mountain range, and the world seems to actively conspire against those who attempt to avoid the placed routes. It's like some intelligence is actively forcing us to take them.

[She nods at his last question.] Basically. And to see all the towns we can.

It sounds like a challenge. Do your Pokémon adapt to each environment they're placed into?

To a certain extent, yes. You wouldn't want to bring, say, a grass-type out into this cave, for example. But they can be remarkably adaptable.

Why can't you bring a grass type out into the cave? Is it because there isn't much sunlight for the Pokémon to absorb?

Well that would be a problem over a long period of time, but I'm actually referring to this cave specifically. The temperature would be very bad for anything plant-based.

Some plants can withstand very cold temperatures, such as the tundra growing near the Artic Circle, while others can't. I guess most plants here are used to a fairly temperate climate, right?

Ah, I see what you mean, but honestly the only plants that seem ready to deal with cold temperatures are the ones that are also part ice type, and there aren't many of those. The grass typing species of Pokemon are all weak to ice, unless they have another type to balance it out, so you can draw the logical conclusions from that.
