Why is there no map for this place... You know, I think that's a project that really needs to be undertaken. Maps of all the various caaaaaaaaa- oof!

[Stepping onto one of the ice-covered floors that covers the ice path, Twilight is interrupted by suddenly slipping and sliding all the way over to the wall on the opposite side, which she crashes headlong into.]

Urgh... that was unpleasant. Alright, just need to pay a bit more attention, let's tryyyyyyy- argh!

[Another step has her legs slipping straight out from under her, and she slides across to another corner of the room on her knees, face first. After a highly unpleasant sounding crash, she lets out a low groan and slides down the wall until she's face down, making highly unhappy noises.]

I. Hate. This. Cave.

[As if to add insult to injury, the Pokemon who's been holding the gear this whole time proceeds to step out onto the ice and easily slide its way over to its hapless trainer, holding out the gear.]

What? Oh just... just shut it off, Champ. I don't even want to worry about that map idea until I'm out of this place, now. Oh, my head...

The Ice Path. It's the only way to get to Blackthorn City, aka the only city we haven't been to yet in Johto.

Clearly, they saved the worst for last.

[She's not even sure if she wants to struggle to her feet or just flop there for a little while.]

Huh. Thought it was just another cave. I guess it makes sense that it's filled with ice. [ And now Snake wants to go there EVEN LESS. ]

Too bad you can't just fly over it.

Well, that's the problem with Pokemon needing to actually reach a place so they know where they're going before they can fly to it.

[Discovering later on from Riku that this is not actually necessary if you have a map is going to do a number on her.]

None of the caves are enjoyable in my opinion but good grief does this one take the cake.

The last time I went through a cave was when I went to Azalea the first time... That's something I don't feel like repeating, but I did catch an Onix there. Made the trip a bit easier.

[ Snake thought about having a map, and if that would help, but maybe things just worked differently here. That stupid fake-tree Pokemon from years ago was testament enough to that fact. ]

I guess a rock snake would be pretty useless on an icy floor.

Well it might be able to get more traction depending on the roughness of the rocks, but as I recall Onix is pretty smooth.

Pretty smooth for a rock. [ Frown. ] I guess compared to other rocks, sure... Steelix is even smoother, though it's got those jutting parts.

[ Thinking about riding on Onix just makes his tailbone hurt. ]

Well, yes, but still smooth enough to make for a slippery ride. And riding one isn't pleasant at the best of times, as it appears you're aware.

So, rough types are better to ride through there... What about fire types? Can't they just melt the ice?

Well, that's my belief, anyway. They'd be able to get a better grip and such.

As for fire-types, it's not impossible but there's danger involved. I'd prefer to avoid drowning, for one thing.

Guess I didn't really think of that...

Yeah. See the real problem is that the entire cave is practically coated in the stuff, which means that the ice above you will start melting too if you're not careful. The fact that heat rises does not help.

Hn... better not use fire types at all in that place then.

[ Snake pinches the bridge of his nose in thought. ] What other types of Pokemon might benefit in an ice cave? Other than like... the ice ones.

Water, maybe? You definitely wouldn't want to use dragon, flying, grass, or ground.

Water on ice... Sounds like it'd just make stuff even more slippery.

Yeah... the Pokemon themselves would probably be fine but it wouldn't really help the trainer.

Fighting, perhaps? They could break a path.

Yes actually. Champ, the Hitmonlee who was carrying the gear for me, is a fighter.

[She ponders this for a bit, then looks offscreen.]

Champ! Try a brick break on the ice!

[There's a deep sound that sounds kind of like "hut!" in response, and a loud crash immediately after. Twilight jumps, and stares past the gear in shock.]

Um... wow. He just broke up a huge patch of ice into pieces.

Just make sure you don't bring the place down on yourself...

Well, at least I have something resembling a plan now. I'm gonna sign off and try to get back to moving. Hopefully the next time I use this thing I'll be outside again.
