24th Spell: [Video]

Why is there no map for this place... You know, I think that's a project that really needs to be undertaken. Maps of all the various caaaaaaaaa- oof!

[Stepping onto one of the ice-covered floors that covers the ice path, Twilight is interrupted by suddenly slipping and sliding all the way over to the wall on the opposite side, which she crashes headlong into.]

Urgh... that was unpleasant. Alright, just need to pay a bit more attention, let's tryyyyyyy- argh!

[Another step has her legs slipping straight out from under her, and she slides across to another corner of the room on her knees, face first. After a highly unpleasant sounding crash, she lets out a low groan and slides down the wall until she's face down, making highly unhappy noises.]

I. Hate. This. Cave.

[As if to add insult to injury, the Pokemon who's been holding the gear this whole time proceeds to step out onto the ice and easily slide its way over to its hapless trainer, holding out the gear.]

What? Oh just... just shut it off, Champ. I don't even want to worry about that map idea until I'm out of this place, now. Oh, my head...

[He's really hopeful that this works- he'd feel pretty guilty if she just falls again. So he keeps his own 'Gear on.]

[She doesn't answer, too focused on trying to stay up, but slowly works her way over to the slope, fingers crossed that she'll be able to pull this off...

And she makes it! She sighs and slumps down on the thankfully non-slippery formation for a moment.]

Oh thank Celestia. It'll be slow going, but if I can prevent another incident of my face meeting the wall in here it'll be worth it.

Well, that's the most important thing I think. Hopefully you won't have anything bothering you on the way. That would be the last thing you need..

Unfortunately, every cave in this world contains an abundance of wild Pokemon. I just hope the repel spray I bought holds out.

Repel... We got that in our bags when we first arrived. Is it very reliable then?

[friendyousohard]

Oh yes, I've tested it myself. I personally use it every single time I have to go on a trip through a cave. There's no space that's safe inside of them, so it's invaluable.

I had no idea they were that troubling... I'll have to keep it in mind, then. Thank you very much.

No problem. I wouldn't want anyone to have to deal with a Zubat swarm, much less someone who already went out of their way to help me.

Zubats... are actual bats, or is that just an unfortunate coincidence?

Oh they're bats alright. Enormous bats with the ability to screech in such levels that it causes the confusion status in Pokemon, as well as a bite that drains vitality.

Also they like to get tied up in people's hair.

I wish I knew. It can't be because the look interests them. They don't even open their eyes until they evolve into Golbat.

For some reason, the fact that they're blind just makes this information worse...

Trust me, everything you hear about them is just going to make it worse. The more so if you weren't particularly enamored with bats to begin with.

I've had enough of frightening and horrible things before coming here... I'd really not want to deal with anything like that.

I'll be certain to pack up with these Repel items before we go anywhere near a cave.

Good, that's wise of you. Beyond that the best advice I can give you for dealing with caves is to just have an idea of which direction you need to go. I'd suggest a map, but I haven't been able to find any.

To my surprise and irritation, yes. Apparently no one's ever decided that these paths need to be written out.

But people have been here for years now, haven't they?

Four years, for some of them, and that's discounting the natives.

I try to justify it as no one even wanting to think about going back in there once they've escaped.

I suppose traveling is going to have to rely on a little bit of luck then...

Unfortunately so. And judicious use of a compass.

I'll keep that in mind. I think I feel a bit better knowing what to expect now.
