15th Spell: [Video/Action for Violet City]

[Wrapped up in the snuggest winter coat she could find and a decent muffler, Twilight thought she'd been fairly well prepared for the rigors of flying on dragonback in winter.

She was wrong. As Spike touches down outside of the entrance to the Violet City Pokemon Center, she's shaking like a leaf from the cold. Maybe it's just that she had him fly so fast... or, well, the weather and how high they'd been in the air probably had something to do with it, too. Either way, she's still frigid, and she doubts her friend sitting behind her is doing any better.]

Th-th-th-thank you, S-S-Spike. [She slides off his back, wincing a little as her legs make it plain how upset they are at her for keeping them in a riding position for so long. She staggers a bit, leaning against her Dragonite before she gets her balance and offers a hand to Fluttershy.]

C-c-come o-o-on. L-l-lets get inside q-q-quickly.

[Once Fluttershy is off and a tired looking Spike is returned to his ball, they quickly make their way inside where it's blessedly warm. One drop off of their Pokemon to be treated later, and Twilight's sitting in a chair with her Pokegear on, ready to ask an important question.]

So, what's the best way to keep yourself warm while flying on Pokeback in the middle of winter? I bundled up to what I thought was a decent amount, but I'm still freezing!

Also, Fluttershy and I are now in Violet, where we'll be staying until... probably the new year, at least. We're hoping to see you soon, Rainbow.

(Rainbow's pretty cold herself, but not that cold; she's next to a warm fire that will eventually die out. And she really doesn't wanna answer that question Twilight just asked!)

[She takes a moment to shiver and rub her arms together for warmth, looking at Rainbow's situation.]

At least I'm in the Pokemon Center now. It's heated. What about you? Is that fire going to last?

Yeah, but back then I had my mane and feathers to keep me warm! I guess you could try...lots of blankets? And a sleeping bag!

(She glances at the fire for a moment before nodding.)

It should last a little longer, and if not I'll have Blaze get it going again. Oh, guess what?

Hmm... You need something wind resistant, probably clothes like you were going skiing! Maybe you should see if they have a 'flying in winter' section at the clothing store. I don't remember one but it might be a seasonal thing.

So you're one of Dash's friends from home? I am guessing you are the cool egghead one.

I checked the Goldenrod Department store before I left and grabbed things that were winter designed, but I don't think any of them were meant for high altitudes or speeds. Maybe I need something you'd only find in a specialty store...

Oh, you know Rainbow? Well, if she said "egghead" she was talking about me, yep. I'm Twilight Sparkle. Nice to meet you.

[She's pleased to hear the "cool" in front of the "egghead", though.]

Well, Falkner trains Flying types, maybe a store there has something? Otherwise do your best to cover everything with something very good against wind, and layer your clothes as much as you can. I'm used to cold, not flying in cold, so I can't be abso-erta-tive this'll work in the air.

I'm not flying, I don't have the right badge. Or a Pokemon that knows Fly. ...or a Pokemon with wings. So I'm walking, but I have Wildfyre to keep me warm as I walk!

What I do is keep a Fire type with me while I fly. I wrap us both up so we stay warm.

The smaller the better if the Pokemon you fly on isn't very big.

That isn't a problem. He's a Dragonite. But I, um... don't have any fire types.

You should definitely get one. They're super useful, and not just for flying with in the winter.

[Fluttershy hugs Twilight's arm, burying her face into her friend's shoulder. She's actually pretty upset about Falkner, but of course, has been quiet about the whole thing.]

Sorry I didn't give you better warning about how bad the trip was going to be. Are you alright, Fluttershy?

I guess that's one of the perks about flying on a Charizard. No ice weakness, and he can heat things up pretty fast.

[Plus, he knows Sunny Day, buuut this isn't a bragging session.]

Whatever you do, just try to stay warm for a bit. Maybe make some cocoa if you've got the time and energy for it.

Well, we won't be leaving the center for a while, so hopefully that'll give us a chance to thaw. It does look like I could use a good fire-type though. Maybe I should check the breeding center and see what's available.

Alright, I'll see what I can do on this end. I'm no detective, and the trail's probably cold by now, but maybe I can chip in a couple things that will help. You never know.

You know, I could do you one better. Got a few fire type eggs collecting dust at the Training Center, including one that's pretty rare.

[He smirks. In the background, a Volcarona hovers and hums, doing a little flip before flying off screen.]

Layers. Several shirts, a jacket, and a thick coat can help out more than you think. Flying at a lower altitude may be a good idea, too. It gets colder the higher up you go.

[Granted, each flyer can only go so high and she has no idea what Twilight was riding so maybe they weren't that high, but the principle is the same.]

If you get a chance, try and see if you can find any clues in the Gym. Falkner said the police were searching for any leads, but we all know how useful they are.

[Which is not at all. Lightning would be there herself, but there's too much going down and not enough of her to go around.]

Yes, I know about altitude temperature difference, but I think I underestimated just how much it can mean. I'll try flying a bit lower next time, maybe a bit slower too. Spike's top speed is amazing, but it's also a great way to pick up wind resistance. And I'll remember that about layers.

[She nods sharply.]

I'll do what I can. I don't have much in the way of investigative skill, but Sapphire, my Snorlax, has a good nose, and I'm fairly good at putting clues together. I'll let you know if I find anything that might be of use.

I... guess the use of the word "thermal" does imply that they'd help in a situation like this, but no underwear I've ever seen has been designed for insulation.

[Chris was huddled in the Pokemon Center, trying to keep warm. While his Houndour Daniel didn't like being used this way, it was the only way to keep his newest Pokemon Gren the Pineco from exploding. Only Maya his Pawniard was keeping away from the fire logically, while his Squirtle Rain and Duskull Shad were very close to said Houndour. Spying Twilight in the Pokemon Center, Chris gave a small exhausted hello to her.]

[Twilight's Pokemon, meanwhile, are all safely in the hands of Joy, and even if they weren't, she doesn't have a fire type to warm everyone up yet anyway. She raises her head, and nods at Chris.]

Ever tried flying on an Altaria? They're pretty damn comfortable, even in cold weather.

[You'd think the first suggestion would be about clothing, but who needs that when you're flying on a fluffy cotton cloud?]

I suppose it's a good reason to think of either fliers to try, though I don't think my Sigilyph would be any better, and there's no way I'm trying it with Echo.
