[Wrapped up in the snuggest winter coat she could find and a decent muffler, Twilight thought she'd been fairly well prepared for the rigors of flying on dragonback in winter.

She was wrong. As Spike touches down outside of the entrance to the Violet City Pokemon Center, she's shaking like a leaf from the cold. Maybe it's just that she had him fly so fast... or, well, the weather and how high they'd been in the air probably had something to do with it, too. Either way, she's still frigid, and she doubts her friend sitting behind her is doing any better.]

Th-th-th-thank you, S-S-Spike. [She slides off his back, wincing a little as her legs make it plain how upset they are at her for keeping them in a riding position for so long. She staggers a bit, leaning against her Dragonite before she gets her balance and offers a hand to Fluttershy.]

C-c-come o-o-on. L-l-lets get inside q-q-quickly.

[Once Fluttershy is off and a tired looking Spike is returned to his ball, they quickly make their way inside where it's blessedly warm. One drop off of their Pokemon to be treated later, and Twilight's sitting in a chair with her Pokegear on, ready to ask an important question.]

So, what's the best way to keep yourself warm while flying on Pokeback in the middle of winter? I bundled up to what I thought was a decent amount, but I'm still freezing!

Also, Fluttershy and I are now in Violet, where we'll be staying until... probably the new year, at least. We're hoping to see you soon, Rainbow.

Weather is a little more cold than I'm used to, but I'm fine. Normally I don't try to endorse the way Daniel goes about things, but Gren (my Pineco) is very fond of Selfdestructing so he helps keep Gren in line.

You're Twilight, right? We talked before on the Pokegear.

Yeah, I remember that. Chris, wasn't it? Nice to meet you in person.

[She nods at the Pineco and Houndour, a bit of nervousness showing in her expression.] So as long as your Houndour stays put, the Pineco won't selfdestruct, right?

That's right. Nice to see you in person too.

[Chris gave a small nod.] Pretty much. I don't normally like doing things like that but between Rain my Squirtle, Daniel my Houndour and Gren, I have my hands full with keeping the peace.

Sounds like the only workable option to me, given the situation. Do you have a plan to train him out of that habit?

I know that I do want to train him better so that he stop selfdestructing. But I'm not sure how.

Well... do you know what causes him to selfdestruct?

[Chris gave a very loud sigh as he pondered that line of though]

Usually, he does it for 'fun' or on a whim. I have no clue.

Hmmm.... there are some Pokemon who have the ability "Damp". When they're out on the field, Selfdestruct and Explosion can't be used. Maybe if you got one of those and kept it out when he was, he'd eventually stop trying?

Hmm. That does sound like a good idea, but which Pokemon have that Ability?

Let's have a look.

[She pulls out the Dex and starts fiddling with it.]

Okay, it looks like... Psyduck, Poliwag, and Wooper can all be born with it, and their evolutions keep the ability. There's also a chance they'll be born with Cloud Nine instead, if it's a Psyduck, or Water Absorb if they're a Poliwag or Wooper, but they're still pretty common species and it's a good shot. You could probably get one by fishing right around here if it weren't winter.

Thanks for the information, Twilight. I've heard of Wooper actually. They're Water/Ground types right?

[Deciding to change the subject, Chris gives a small smile to Twilight.]

What exactly are your plans in Violet City? From what I remember, you were just leaving Ilex Forest when we last talked.

That's right.

[That subject makes her grin.]

Actually, Fluttershy and I are here to meet a friend. Rainbow Dash should be arriving in Violet pretty soon.
