15th Spell: [Video/Action for Violet City]

[Wrapped up in the snuggest winter coat she could find and a decent muffler, Twilight thought she'd been fairly well prepared for the rigors of flying on dragonback in winter.

She was wrong. As Spike touches down outside of the entrance to the Violet City Pokemon Center, she's shaking like a leaf from the cold. Maybe it's just that she had him fly so fast... or, well, the weather and how high they'd been in the air probably had something to do with it, too. Either way, she's still frigid, and she doubts her friend sitting behind her is doing any better.]

Th-th-th-thank you, S-S-Spike. [She slides off his back, wincing a little as her legs make it plain how upset they are at her for keeping them in a riding position for so long. She staggers a bit, leaning against her Dragonite before she gets her balance and offers a hand to Fluttershy.]

C-c-come o-o-on. L-l-lets get inside q-q-quickly.

[Once Fluttershy is off and a tired looking Spike is returned to his ball, they quickly make their way inside where it's blessedly warm. One drop off of their Pokemon to be treated later, and Twilight's sitting in a chair with her Pokegear on, ready to ask an important question.]

So, what's the best way to keep yourself warm while flying on Pokeback in the middle of winter? I bundled up to what I thought was a decent amount, but I'm still freezing!

Also, Fluttershy and I are now in Violet, where we'll be staying until... probably the new year, at least. We're hoping to see you soon, Rainbow.

Hmm... You need something wind resistant, probably clothes like you were going skiing! Maybe you should see if they have a 'flying in winter' section at the clothing store. I don't remember one but it might be a seasonal thing.

So you're one of Dash's friends from home? I am guessing you are the cool egghead one.

I checked the Goldenrod Department store before I left and grabbed things that were winter designed, but I don't think any of them were meant for high altitudes or speeds. Maybe I need something you'd only find in a specialty store...

Oh, you know Rainbow? Well, if she said "egghead" she was talking about me, yep. I'm Twilight Sparkle. Nice to meet you.

[She's pleased to hear the "cool" in front of the "egghead", though.]

*She isn't that much like Rarity, ~~her girlfriend at home fits that label~~. The Pinkie Pie thing... yeah, terror is good.*

Well, Falkner trains Flying types, maybe a store there has something? Otherwise do your best to cover everything with something very good against wind, and layer your clothes as much as you can. I'm used to cold, not flying in cold, so I can't be abso-erta-tive this'll work in the air.

*That was Imogen saying Absolutely Certain Positive all at once really fast.*

Greetings and Salutations, Twilight Sparkle, I am Imogen Moreno. I'm heading toward Violet to meet up with Rainbow Dash so we can be totally official friends. I'm not flying, I don't have the right badge. Or a Pokemon that knows Fly. ...or a Pokemon with wings. So I'm walking, but I have Wildfyre to keep me warm as I walk!

Abso-erta-tive? [The resemblance is uncanny.] That is a good idea, though. Falkner would need that sort of thing, it's not like Gym Leaders stop training in winter.

Well, if you have a fire type you should be fine. It would be rather surprising if you had a pokemon that can fly you this early on in your journey anyway.

[She got flown out to Goldenrod, but that's because AJ essentially called her in a flying taxi service.]

What kind of Pokemon is Wildfyre?

*Overdramatic sigh* Absolutely, certain, or positive. I was trying to save time! Nope, he definitely can't just pack in for the winter.

...Unless he and his Pokemon fly South. ...is there a South for them to fly to?

Oh, my Ponyta, I've been working real hard trying to level her faster, so she can be a Rapidash as soon as I can then buy myself a cool cowboy hat, like a stetson! It isn't a very quick process though, Ponyta doesn't evolve until LV40.

Still! She can walk along side me and keep me warm for now.

Well, there's definitely a South, but without knowing where we are on this world I can't be certain if it gets warmer there, or colder.

A Ponyta, huh? A friend of mine from here started with one of them. They can be pretty spirited, especially after they evolve, so watch out!

Well... since it's winter now, we're probably in the northern hemisphere. So South would be warmer! That just leaves the question of what's South but within' flying distance!

*There are so many holes in that logic.*

I hatched her from an egg. She can get a bit wild sometimes, but nothing I can't handle. I spent the past week at the Moo Moo Farms, seeing what they could suggest since they raise Ponyta there. It was fun, except the shoveling out the stables, but the Pokemon seemed pretty apologetic about that!

Well, that's not necessarily true. The months might work differently here, but-

... Wait a minute, the Moo Moo farms? You've been up past Ecruteak already?

[And here she thought you were a newbie.]

...Yeah. I'm actually heading back toward Ecruteak now. Took a while to get up here, stayed a week, now I can head back to Violet and see about a gym battle.

*Imogen doesn't know how to sit still, and she wanted to see the farms. So she did.*

Maybe you can find an electric Pokemon, and a heater! You know, the kind you plug into a wall! Would that keep you warm while flying?

No, I'm afraid you can't see about a gym battle in Violet. Didn't you see Falkner's message? The gym's closed until further notice.

[That being the important news, she kind of ignores Imogen's suggestion.]

*Look, you got Imogen to act normal for a bit, congrats.*

I saw. That really sucks that people would do that! I mean, not just because he's a Gym Leader. But... you don't do that to anyone! It's just mean.

...I was planning to stick out the rest of the winter in Violet to practice. And I don't think it'll take too long for a bunch of Gym Leader Pokemon to break out or get rescued by someone who stands for justice and good things. So it won't actually impact my plans too much.

I just wish I could find the jerks that did that and give them what's coming to them.

[Pinkiexperience.]

Well, I can't disagree with you on any of those points... I just hope they get rescued or escape soon. If they're willing to kidnap them, who knows what else they're willing to do...

[Twilight shudders. She doesn't want to use the words "Team Rocket" over the gear more than she has to, lest she draw attention to herself, but she's dead certain she knows who's behind this.]

Why isn't there some silent kid in a hat dealing with Team Rocket. That's how its suppose to work!

*And after a brief bit of silence, Imogen has decided she is done with being angry, scared, and bad feelings. She'll be awesome instead, starting now.*

Well, when Falkner gets his Pokemon back, Dash and I can challenge him and get shiny new badges for it. Even if it takes a while. I don't wanna do anymore traveling in this winter than I have to. Mittens make putting my hair up very complicated, winter is the time for fluffy comfortable beds and- *That pause was curious* well, not camping.

I'll agree winter's a bad travel time. It's best to stay inside until things get warmer.

So... I guess Dash must be really important to you, for you to fly out to Violet to wait for her, huh?

Rainbow Dash is one of my closest friends. Only my other four friends, my assistant Spike, my mentor, my family, and my old foalsitter mean anywhere near as much to me.

... And if what Fluttershy tells me about the future of my world is accurate, the last is going to be part of the second-to-last in that list in not too long.

...So your foalsitter is marrying into your family? Weird... or is it cool?

*She just wants to be clear on this.*

That's a big list of people that mean something to you. And of that list only Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy are here, well at least you have somebo- somepony from home! Even if the gathering isn't as bid as you're used to.

*Maybe that was a bit too energetic.*

Are you a pegasus like Rainbow Dash is? Or are you some other kind of equine?

Both, I think. But Cadence was the best foalsitter I could possibly have asked for, and... well, in a lot of ways she was like a big sister already, so not all that much is going to change between us, I think.

Well, if we all were gathered here in Johto, that would really be something. But I know better than to hope for it. I'm just going to be grateful for what I have.

[She smiles proudly.] I'm a unicorn, actually. We're the magic users of Equestria.

*And with an amazing bout of self control and self awareness, Imogen does not explain what terrible family dynamic weird entailed with a babysitter becoming part of your family. Because she's from a world where dysfunction is standard.*

Is the fact your friend knows your future weird? I'm the only one from my city here so I am unsure how that works in this Magical Pokemon Adventure. Does it cause weird time paradox things to know what will happen before it has happened?

*She'd make some drama-queen comment about what she would give for friends from home, but she is too busy acting like a girl a decade younger than she is.*

A unicorn!? Really? Reallyreally!? Cooooooooool.

Well it kind of feels weird, but people being taken from different spots on the timeline isn't odd for Johto. Apparently we just don't remember it when we go back home.

[She's just a little stunned by that reaction.]

When I was a kid unicorns were my faaaaavorite. I mean, they aren't real where I'm from. Neither are Pegasi, just in stories and legends and books.

I guess if I can't spend the holidays with Fiones, Eli, and Dad. Hanging out with a Unicorn and a Pegasus isn't too bad.

Oh, right. Unicorns and Pegasi are mythical creatures to most humans. I sort of knew that from talking to other people, but it's still weird to think about. I mean, it's not like we have human myths.

Two Pegasi, actually. Fluttershy will be there.

Well, humans aren't too special. You have magic, a pegasus can fly, we have thumbs. Not that thumbs suck, they're great, but it isn't very mythical.

I- Um- didn't want to be rude and ask you what Fluttershy was. Or assume she was something when it is best to figure I don't know anything.

You don't need magic or flight to be special. Earth ponies are as special and unique as any unicorn or pegasus, and the same goes for humans.

Oh, I wouldn't call it rude. I mean, there's no way to tell while we're in these human bodies, right? It's only natural to be curious.

I suppose, I do need thumbs to help fix my hair up in the morning. I don't think I could do that with flying. Maybe magic, not sure it would be as much fun with magic.

I didn't mean it'd be rude to ask, I meant it would be rude to ask you. It's much more a question to ask her. That's all.

There are all sorts of questions I only ask to the person in question! Even if I'm curious.
