25th Spell: [Video]

You know, of all the Pokemon to honor, Slowpoke seems like a rather odd choice.

[If Twilight's voice sounds funny, it's because she's currently at the bottom of a well. And those familiar with Azalea town should probably be able to get clued in pretty quickly that it's Slowpoke Well, specifically.]

Not that I have anything against the species in general but... it's not a Legendary or anything, which is what these are usually named after. I guess it could just be because there are so many of them... though I haven't actually seen any yet.

[As she says that there's a squish sound, and the video wobbles when she jumps.]

Ah! Oh... There you are. [The view shifts to a Slowpoke, who seems entirely undisturbed by the fact that it just got stepped on.] Good, I'm glad you're here after all. Snails, come on out!

[One pop of a pokeball later, a Slowbro is standing there staring down at it's brethren. The two of them stare at one another for several moments before the Slowbro talks.

Sloooooooow

The Slowpoke stares in response for several more moments before answering with a Pooooooke of its own. Twilight groans.]

... Okay in retrospect I don't know why I thought this would need to be record- waugh!

[She jumps again, jiggling the camera, and the view turns to show several more Slowpokes coming towards her.]

Oh. Well, there really are a lot of them down here, aren't there? I guess Snails will have plenty of company for this little visit... Wait. They're coming from the direction of the stairs up, aren't they? Which means the path back is now all slimy and I'm liable to fall on my face...

[She and the camera swivel around back to Snails, who stares blankly at her, but with a big dopey grin on his face.]

You had them do that on purpose, didn't you?

[This seems like a really silly accusation at first...

Until he slowly, deliberately winks at her.]

You're not funny!

[Okay, so, Riku really shouldn't laugh. He knows that, and he figures Twilight had some reason for recording the place, but once the other Slowpokes start pouring in, he snorts, bites his lip, and looks away, trying his hardest to hold back the explosion building inside him.]

Sheesh. Didn't think you'd be so popular with the locals.

[Or local Pokémon, anyway.]

[AJ, however, finds it at least moderately funny. She chuckles, shaking her head.]

'Mazing how resourceful they are in groups.

[Her enthusiasm, however, is not shared with her Gardevoir, who floats inches above the slowpoke slime with an exhausted expression. Really, why would her trainer bring her down to somewhere so... disgusting? They may both be psychic types, but she's nothing like this disgusting beast.]

[The view is still on the Slowbro's face, and he's staring with the same dopey smile as always.]

Don't let his face fool you. He's a serial prankster.

It's all him. He's influencing the others. Possibly psychically. But this was definitely his idea.

[She brought him down here so he could see his fellow 'pokes and because it seemed like the sort of place he should go at least once in his life, but now she is horribly regretting it.]

So, what, he's king a' the slowpokes?

Considering the other evolutionary line he could have taken would actually have resulted in him being a Slowking, that's an odd thought.

I take it you must be in Azalea Town? If I recall, the local legend is that a slowpoke brought an end to a long drought.

I reckon we'll just have to watch our step while we're down here. Wouldn't be the first time somepony's gotten hurt because of one of Snails' pranks.

[She'll never forget the day she nearly lost her leg to a shellder after being pushed into the ocean.]

Well at least this time we can kind of see it coming. As long as we're careful on the slime, we shouldn't replicate the ice path.

[She smiles, half-joking.]

Oh is that the reason? I must have missed the story, which is kind of odd really. I usually search those things out right away.

Perhaps a particularly powerful use of the Rain Dance technique can account for the legend...

So long as I don't twist an ankle like I did in Mount Mortar we should be safe.

Of course, now that I've said that, I think I just increased the likelihood.

Only when she gets herself stuck in there. When she's perched on my arm or nuzzling my chest I'm fine, I just don't want her on my head.

Supposedly, it rained because the slowpoke in question yawned. Though it really sounds like that may have been sheer coincidence...

I dunno. Spook lives for hair. He might mess things up from time t'time, but if it's his favorite spot, I ain't gonna say no.

I dunno, have you met any of the locals here? 'Cause considering how stupid most of 'em are, I actually think it kinda makes sense that they'd cream themselves over somethin' as dumb as Slowpoke.

[There's a pause. Yusuke cracks a grin.]

Yours is pretty smart, though. I'll give 'im that.

Well Spook isn't a bat. Though he is enormous, I don't know how he pulls that off.
