17th Spell: [Video/Action for Ponies] (Forward dated to Saturday morning)
[The gear clicks on in the middle of a room in the Pokemon Center. Someone's clearly using it, since the sheets are rumpled and the monitoring gear seems to have seen recent use, but no one's in the bed at the moment.
There's a splashing sound nearby, muffled by a door. The gear is moving very, very slowly towards that door.]
Mmmmmmffff... huh?
[Someone appears to have just woken up behind said door, as well.]
A-AJ...?
Um... h-hey there, Sugarcube. You sure had one crazy sleep, didn't ya?
I did...? Where am I? What's going on...?
[The gear is about halfway to the door at this point.]
You passed out on us right 'bout the time we got into Celadon. We were all real worried about you.
Passed out...? The comas!
[Twilight's voice suddenly gets much stronger and there's the sound of a sudden splash, as though she's just moving around in a pool of water.]
I had one! I went back home! Well... sort of. You know what I mean, right?
I... think so?
I saw so much... My brother, and Cadence, the Crystal Empire, even Discord, there's so much to... Um, AJ?
Discord? What in tarnation's he doin' back? We sealed him up for good!
I'll explain that in a moment, but first... what were you doing just before I woke up?
... Givin' you a bath.
[The gear has almost reached the door, when suddenly a large yellow foot slams down in front of it. It wobbles and falls to the ground, showing an Alakazam glaring down at a Slowpoke, which was carrying the gear.]
And what do you think you're doing?
[The gear floats up into Starswirl's hand...]
Apologies to any who saw this and wanted to speak to my trainer. She is currently occupied, but will be with you shortly.
[And clicks off.]
A few moments later...
[The gear clicks on to show a wet haired and slightly bedraggled Twilight.]
Ah, hello everyone. It seems I've encountered one of those week-long sleeps that we go into on occasion, and gotten some new memories of home. Honestly, it feels a bit strange to be back here... but I'll adjust soon enough. If anything important has happened in the past week, I'd appreciate it if somepo- someone could let me know.
... Also, if anyone has any ideas as to how to curb the tendencies of some Pokemon to abscond with peoples' gear and pull, or try to pull, obnoxious pranks on their trainers and others, I'd love to hear them.

'Gotta consider status effect, Stealth Rock, the weather making a huge impact and deciding a battle.' See, haven't missed a thing!

Alright, let me give you a hypothetical situation. You've trained Blaze to level one hundred. He's the last Pokemon you've got and you're up against a Blastoise, also level one hundred. How do you win this fight?
no subject
Obviously pure firepower alone won't win 'cause we're facing a Water type. So, keep Blaze away from the water attacks by using Fly while hitting back with moves like Tackle, Slash or even a powerful Fighting type move I read about on the Pokedex...Seismic Toss, with a from-the-air Hyper Beam for the win!

Hmmm... I'll admit, that's not a bad plan. A well-aimed Hydro Pump when you're low enough to be hit could put Blaze out of commission, and Surf would give you some serious problems, but it could work, with a bit of luck. There are other ways to do it, but those involve a lot of intricate planning and understanding of how everything fits together. Right now you should focus on learning the strengths and weaknesses of each of your Pokemon. That'll be vital if you want to win.

Alright~! So, I just gotta study each one of my Pokemon and help them overcome their weaknesses while amplifying their strengths. How could I help out with Ditzy? Fluttershy says he's a Water and Psychic-type but the only 2 moves I've seen him use are Confusion and Disable!

...What about Daring? She's just pure Grass-type all the way. Keep her away from all Fire-type attacks, or what?

[She pulls out the gear and sorts through it a bit, frowning at what she sees.]
No matches? I thought for sure... Oh well, let's try Rock instead.
[A bit more fiddling and her frown deepens.]
Only one? Ancient Power, well that's pretty decent... Only learnable through breeding? Okay, that's no help. Well, that just leaves Ground.
[She shifts to Fire's last weakness and...]
Ah, here we go. Earthquake... but we can't get the TM for that. Pity too, it's a very powerful move. What else... Bulldoze! I think the TM for that is available in the department store. That will be your best bet if she has to take on any Fire-types.
no subject
I think Daring has Ancient Power in her arsenal...wait, Bulldoze? It is? Can we get it?!
(She's very intrigued and curious to learn Bulldoze's effects.)

Do Unicorns even have an epitome of power-like attack?

Water has Hydro Pump. It's extremely powerful, but it's very easy to miss with it. Electric has Thunder, which has the same problem, and Zap Cannon, which is even more powerful and even more inaccurate. If you use Thunder in the rain, though, it stops being so hard to hit with. Which probably isn't much of a surprise. Psychic... I think that's actually the move Psychic. Really obvious there. And Grass has Solarbeam.
Now, Solarbeam's interesting in that it's arguably more useful on several Fire-types than it is on a Grass. The reason for that is because a lot of Fire-type Pokemon can learn Sunny Day, and when the sunlight is strong, Solarbeam is easier to use.

...The Queen is an Alicorn, isn't she?
Sunny Day? Sounds like the name of a pony from back in Ponyville.
(That wasn't a yawn, btw Twilight.)
no subject
Or one of Princess Celestia's personal servants, with a name like that. But it's actually one of the weather moves, along with Rain Dance, Sandstorm, and Hail. It strengthens Fire type attack moves and weakens Water type ones, along with making Solarbeam charge up instantly, which is a huge help to its usability.
no subject
That sounds. So. Awesome~! I could teach it to Daring, Blaze and any of my Fire-type Pokemon?
no subject
I think so, yes! I know Daring and Blaze can learn it, at least.
no subject
Alright! I'm gonna make sure Blaze and Daring get that move in their arsenal.
