Even if you have no idea what strategy your opponent will use, or what attacks they know?

That's why you try to create a team tailored to counter anything that can be thrown at you. If you find something that takes you by surprise, then you simply adjust for that scenario next time.

And what if you run out of counters, someday?

... I'm not sure I understand the question. Legendaries aside, there's not a pokemon out there who can't be countered one way or another.

There are hundreds of Pokémon out there, right? But we can only use six at a time, and train about fifty or so. You'd have to find fifty Pokémon that can counter every single other species between themselves, then.

Difficult, but not impossible. Many pokemon can learn a wide variety of attacks and techniques, and using TMs can open their possibilities up even further. It's not impossible to have one Pokemon who's versatile enough to overcome each of the seventeen types, at least theoretically.

And how much would that cost? From what I hear, those TMs aren't cheap.

True. It's not an insurmountable problem, though. Just a difficult one.

Spending the next ten months washing dishes isn't difficult. Merely very long.

There are faster ways to earn money. Do you know how much you get from beating just one Leader?

Plenty, but I don't know if we could fight them over and over for the prize.

No, but there's quite a few of them.

Sixteen times thirteen thousands... Yeah, you could live off that for quite a while.

And there's plenty of other trainers out there too. Honestly, if you can keep moving battling is probably the most cost-effective way of living here. That or breeding and selling Pokemon.

I don't think I'll try that last one. My whole team seems happy as a platonic unit, no need to had lovers' quarrels to the mix.

Well, I never actually tried, but with Fluttershy around I think it became inevitable, her being a breeder and all.

Of course, if it's her job... Does she enjoy it?

I think she enjoys having baby Pokemon and eggs around more than anything. So yes.

That's good to hear. They try to match us to compatible jobs, at least.

You might be able to change jobs if they didn't, whoever "they" are but to my knowledge it hasn't come up.

...I bet it'd involve weeks of paperwork. Someone had to fill it in to start with.

... Part of me wants to see those forms, the rest of me wants to stay far away from them.
