[There's a sigh in response, and then that odd echo sort of voice that accompanies telepathy.]

Yes, but I really do think you're spoiling him with this. Recording an entire match just so one of your Pokemon can strut around?

[Twilight shrugs in response, unperturbed by her Pokemon's complaint.]

It's only the one time, and he really was insistent. I don't usually hold with showing off, but as long as he doesn't start strutting around and being generally insufferable, I think it's fairly harmless. I just kind of wish I knew who he was trying to impress.

I have a feeling you'll find out soon enough.

[Twilight responds to that with a raised eyebrow, but she doesn't question it any further. The camera swings up to show the doors of the Azalea gym, and she shrugs and turns around to face them. A grinning, almost swaggering Heracross shoves the doors open as soon as she looks at them, with considerably more force than necessary. Twilight grimaces, but follows him inside, as does the camera. They walk straight up to the gym leader, who promptly grins at them.]

Well hello there! You must be the latest challenger. I'm Bugsy, and I never lose when it comes to bug-type Pokemon.

Megasoma here begs to disagree on that.

Oh yeah? Well we'll just see how your Heracross measures up to the Bug Pokemon authority, shall we? Go, Pinsir!

[And the battle's on. Megasoma turns to grin and wink at the camera as it starts, while Twilight seems to be realizing that encouraging this sort of behavior might have been a bad idea. She sighs.]

Well, you wanted this, now you've got it. Go, Megasoma. Show everyone watching what you can do.

[And he proceeds to do precisely that.]

A few moments later...

[Twilight walks out of the gym, attaching her new badge to her shirt, while Megasoma swaggers around, posing and flexing and generally looking way too pleased with himself for his own good. She takes the gear back from the cameramon and sighs as the view swings around to show a very unimpressed Kadabra.]

Okay, Starswirl, I admit it. You were right. That was a horrible idea.

[She turns to the camera.]

My sincerest apologies for anyone who had to sit through that. I promise, I'm never doing anything like that again.

Now to find a way to deflate his swollen head...

[She sighs, and clicks off the gear.]

[OOC: Well that turned out longer than I'd planned on. Mod-approved Hive Badge for Twilight, and your character can either speak up while the fight's going on or afterwards. But yeah, ICly absolutely all of the battle was shown on the gear.]

Weird. Maybe he changed his team... or the Scizor was injured so he had to have a fill-in.

[Well, it was only three pokemon out of six, so she won't worry too much about it.]

Yeah, and Starswirl's getting annoyed at his attitude anyway, so it could be a good way for him to let off steam... I'd just have to make sure he doesn't overdo it. Not that he's usually vicious, but he can have a temper if he thinks someone's being stupid.

[ooc: Aw, that's okay! That is what he uses in the games, after all. XD No biggie.]

Hey, it happens. Given all the trainers who come in and batter his team, it only makes sense to rotate a little bit.

[But, hmmm... that is a good point there.]

Well, what's the level gap between them?

Starswirl's about five levels over him. Not enough to make that big of a difference, but some. Same with Spike. They have very powerful special attacks, though, and Megasoma's special defense is... less than stellar.

[Easily his weakest trait, in fact.]

Try flying type moves, if you can. Heracross' quadruple weakness would make it tough for him to keep up.

True. A wing attack from Spike would definitely give him something to worry about. And he doesn't have any attacks that are particularly effective, plus I wouldn't have to worry about Spike going out of control. He's pretty relaxed, unless I'm being attacked.

Sure sounds better than Draco. If he had his way, your Heracross would be a pile of mincemeat.

[Riku sighs.]

He's gotta be the most unruly Dragonite I've seen.

Strange. I was always under the impression that Dragonites were among the more gentle Pokemon. I suppose there are exceptions to every rule though.

Well, my Hydreigon's timid and clingy, and they're supposed to be one of the most destructive Pokémon.

[Riku shrugs.]

Draco's not as bad as my Garchomp or Aerodactyl, but his attitude's pretty obnoxious, and he doesn't play nice even with weaker Pokémon.

And you've never been able to convince him to tone it down, huh? Was he like that even when he was a Dratini?

Man. As a Dratini, he beat on Crush all the time. And back then, Crush was still blind, so it's not like he could see it coming.

Seems that Draco's taken after Quake. They're both naughty natured and massive bullies.

Good grief. I'm assuming Crush is your Heidragon? No wonder he grew up timid! It sounds like sibling rivalry taken up to very unhealthy levels.

Ugh, you've got no idea. Draco basically sees Crush as a poor excuse of a dragon just because he's not strutting around like he runs the show.

And poor Crush has some serious self esteem issues because of it. Doesn't help that Quake joins in on the bullying.

[He groans.]

Figures that my most powerful dragons have the worst personalities.

And I imagine trying to keep them in line when your only real method of discipline is time in the Pokeball isn't exactly easy. Maybe a powerful ice-type would help... Or maybe being beaten would just make them more unpleasant.

Well, they know how to bust out of their Pokéballs. And as for ice types, I've got a Weavile who usually keeps them in line, but they're both stubborn. Seems like any damage they take just pushes them to be more obnoxious.

What I'm hoping is that some time out of the party might cool them down. I've got more than thirty Pokémon at my Training Center, so if they pull any fast ones, they won't get too far.

[Okay one particular detail sticks out to her.]

Wait a minute. They can just... break out of their balls? Whenever they like?

... I didn't even know that was possible!

Almost all of my Pokémon can. Not sure how they picked it up, but I've got a feeling Phantom had something to do with it.

[Because once he figured it out, he probably would've blabbed. Guh.]

The only one who can't is my Aerodactyl, but she's... not exactly intelligent.

I'm guessing Phantom's a ghost-type? It figures one of them would be the kind that would figure something like that out.

But from what you've said already, it's probably a good thing your Aerodactyl hasn't managed to figure out the skill... Didn't you say she was even worse than the others?

Yep. He's a Haunter and he's about as obnoxious as ghosts get.

[Seriously, he's graffiti'd a historic monument.]

And, yeah, Terror's only real impulse is to attack. And sometimes sleep. ...and breed.

Not even fully evolved and he figured that trick out? I'm starting to feel very glad I don't have any ghosts in my party. You don't know how he did it, do you?

[Well it's less awful than clearing out an ancient graveyard for a radio tower...]

Sounds like your most basic type of wild predator. Maybe... she just doesn't have the mental capacity for much else.

Pokémon are pretty clever. I think they all can burst free for the most part, and most just don't care to. All of mine prefer being out, though.

[So he lets them. It's awesome to have dinosaurs and dragons and ghosts all around him, anyway.]

Well, if she doesn't, I'm gonna have to figure out at least some way to tame her.

And yet I've never heard of that particular phenomenon before. You must have a very special group.

Well, if she's just working with instinct, then I'm not quite sure what you can do as far as teaching her goes... Respect for something with that kind of mindset would probably equal fear, but I have no idea how you'd get her to be afraid of you.

Could be the same way that wild Pokémon burst free.
