8th Spell [Video/Action for Violet City]

P-Princess Celestia?

[Twilight's very worried face appears in the screen, a Sigilyph, Celestia's Sigilyph, fluttering around behind her.]

Your Pokemon... it just showed up here. I don't know how it got here, but I promise I'll get it back to you right away. I'm sure that-

[She cuts off, seeming to notice something in the corner of the screen. Her eyes widen in shock and horror.]

The filter broke? But that means...

[She pauses a moment, tears coming to her eyes.]

She's gone...

[She turns off the gear before she can start to cry. Any responses will be answered in a few hours.]

[ever so quietly is coming up to her, arms open, hug ready.]

[She's still in the midst of fully absorbing the realization. That its happened with people she knows this many times before now is probably the only reason she isn't in complete shock. Still, it's almost overwhelming, like a blow to the gut.

She doesn't even notice Fluttershy coming up to her, not consciously anyway. But she leans in her direction when they're close enough to touch regardless, as if by reflex. Only once she feels her friends' arms does she really notice Shy is there, and she turns to look at her with tear-stained eyes.]

Fluttershy... [She tries to say more, but she can't choke anything out.]

[She holds Twilight close, gently petting her hair. Even she was surprised at how soon Celestia had left. She sighs, chin down.]

I'm so sorry, Twilight...

[She collapses. Whimpering in her throat, Twilight just flops limply against Fluttershy's chest and begins to sob into it.]

She... she wasn't even here a month. What was the point? Why? Is this place just taunting me?

[Half of that is barely even intelligible around her broken sounds of anguish, but Fluttershy can probably get the gist. Not that it matters much, anyway. There's no answer available.]

I don't know... I don't know why it does anything... But... Even if she was only here for a little while... It was nice to see her again, wasn't it...? To know she's okay, and to let her know we're okay...?

[It's not much, but it's the best she can come up with for now. She continues holding her, trying to keep Twilight up and steady.]

I was ecstatic to hear her voice... [It's quiet, but clearer than before.] I knew I shouldn't be, but I somehow felt like... like things would be better, now that she was here. Even if she didn't have any power here, she was still the Princess.

But this place just... swept her up and away like that. If it weren't for Apus, it would be like she was never here at all!

[She chokes off a sob and just holds onto Fluttershy for a moment, as though afraid she'll vanish on her next... or the other way around.]

You can't help but be happy when you see somepony you care about, after it's been so long... And I bet she wishes she could have stayed too... Maybe we'll all get back to her sooner than we think...

[Or maybe Just Twi, just Pinkie, who knew. But this was no time to focus on the depressing, though she has a few tears of her own.]

Only if it really is "we all".

[She squeezes Shy tightly, and raises her head to look her, face still streaked with tears.]

I won't leave without you.

[It's not something Twilight can truly promise, but it is deeply appreciated all the same. She lightly presses her forehead to Twilight's.]

And I won't leave without you either.

[She knows, every time she says this she knows that she can't actually force herself to stay, but by everything she holds dear she will do her best to will herself to Fluttershy's side if that's what it takes. Even if it means taking gut blows like this.]

Shy... you make moments like this bearable, you know that?

I try... I know you'd do the same for me. This is what friendship is about. Nothing this place puts us through can ever change that, no matter how many times we get hurt.

Well, if Discord couldn't tear us apart, I don't really think anything can.

[She shouldn't have mentioned Discord. Just thinking about him makes a ripple of anger travel through her body, and it hits the anguish in her stomach and makes her feel a little nauseous. She lowers her head back down to rest it on Fluttershy until she feels a bit better.]

And thank the stars for that. You girls, I...

[She doesn't complete the thought, just holding onto Fluttershy, eyes closed against further waterworks.]

[Since Flutters went through an update a little while ago, she completely understands that anger. She nods...

... And then realizes something.]

... Oh! He was here! Once! A long time ago!

He?

[She pulls her head back and tilts it at Fluttershy in confusion, a confusion strong enough to pull her out of her little funk at least for a moment. Were her mind in better shape, she'd probably be able to figure out exactly who Fluttershy meant, but she's most definitely not at her best right now.]

He who?

[Have some flailing. What a mood breaker.]

Discord! He was here! I didn't know who he was then, but then I went back to Equstria, and then I was back here, but I never heard from him again, and he and his Pokemon never got along, but it was definitely his voice and attitude!

[She pauses a bit, then lowers her head and nods silently.]

I know. I got a message from him once, when I was asking questions over the Gear, taunting me. I didn't see him in person, and I only ever got the one message, but that was enough to make my blood boil. I was hoping none of the rest of you had run into him.

He didn't... do anything to you, did he?

... We were going to have lunch together.

[... wow, wa to dodge a bullet, Shy. She blinks as she realizes just how close she got to danger.]

... Oh, dear.

Curse him.

[And this from a girl who doesn't even believe in curses.]

... I'm sorry, Shy. I should have watched things more closely. I should have warned you... I can't believe I didn't tell you girls as soon as I noticed he was around.

B-But it's not your fault, Twilight! I had no way of knowing who he was! He even used a fake name, Dissent! And he didn't have his powers, so he couldn't have done that much damage...

But it's my job to protect you.

[She says it simply, plainly, as though it's an obvious statement.]

W-well, sometimes... I need to be an adult, and take care of myself when you can't. You shouldn't have that kind of burden all the time.

[see? i am a big pony.]

No... [She shakes her head, trying to better articulate what she was trying to say.] I meant, all of you.

I'm the Element of Magic. I'm the one who's supposed to hold us all together... who's supposed to be there when any of the rest of you need me. I failed you all against Discord once before. I can't do that again.

How can you say you failed? You recused us all, you got us back to normal. You always save us when the moment is right. Even when somepony else saves us, like Cadence and Shining Armor, they couldn't have done it without you.

The fact that I managed to salvage the situation in the end doesn't change the fact that I lost you all to him in the first place. It was my idea to go into the labyrinth, and the Elements weren't even there. If I'd just thought more about the riddle, and brought us straight back home, maybe...

[She can't finish the thought. "Maybe he'd have never gotten the chance to mind-break you." Yes, she blames herself for that.]

[Okay, that stops now, as she pulls you into a hug.]

That's not what's important. What's important is that you managed to free us, and free all of Equestria. Nopony thinks differently. We still love you very much, Twilight, always and forever.
