3rd Spell: [Video/Action for Goldenrod]

[South of Goldenrod, fairly close to Ilex Forest, Twilight is wrapping up her training for the day.]

Alright Starswirl, Spike, let's head back, before it gets too-

Excuse me!

[She jumps at the interruption, accidentally bumping the record button on her gear as she does so, and turns to see a large, heavy-set man beaming at her.]

Miss, you are a trainer, correct?

[Twilight pauses for a brief moment and glances at her two Pokemon before nodding. Is this a serious question?]

Then clearly you are in need of the move Headbutt! I shall teach it to one of your Pokemon, yes?

Um... thanks for the offer, but the only Pokemon I have that can learn it is Starswirl, and he's not really a physical attacker-

Ah, but headbutt is useful for much more than just as an attack! Why, if you were to use it on a tree like this one, you could knock a sleeping Pokemon right out of it! Watch!

Wait, what exactly are you-

[But the overeager tutor doesn't listen in the slightest, jogging right up to a nearby tree and headbutting it with all his strength. And indeed, a Pokemon does fall out... a very angry Heracross, to be precise.]

You see! A Pokemon fell out! But they are dangerous when disturbed from a nap, so be careful.

You're one to talk! Spike, get it before it hurts someone!

[As the Dragonair lunges forward to attack, Twilight bumps the button again, cutting off the recording. So only those who are actually there will get to see her catch her third Pokemon, Megasoma the Heracross. She'll answer responses to her video after the fight though.]

[Meanwhile, the entire time, Fluttershy was hiding behind a tree. of course.]

[Hopefully not the same one the Heracross just came plummeting out of.]

Spike, wrap it tightly!

[And this is where the level difference really comes into play, because Spike has the Heracross on the ropes with just one tight squeeze. It flails a little, smacking him in the face, but there really isn't much it can do. Twilight, however, looks thoughtful.]

A bug/fighting type... That could be pretty useful. Spike, hold it in place!

[As Spike obeys (largely because that's what he was already doing), she pulls out a pokeball, aims, and throws!

Wiggle wiggle wiggle...]

[OOC: Quick question! What gender are Fluttershy's Butterfree and Ledian?]

[She carefully pokes her head out from behind the tree.]

... Go, go, go. Yay.

(OOC: Ledian is a girl, but i never made up my mind about Butterfree, so whatever works, really XD)

[OOC: Want to say Megasoma's a guy and they're both ladies then?]

[Aaaaaaaand-

Bing! Twilight beams hugely and rushes over to pick up the ball.]

Alright! My third Pokemon!

[She pauses for a moment and then looks over at Fluttershy's tree.]

You can come out now, Fluttershy, it's safe.

[Clearly Twilight forgot that the move tutor is still there.]

Hahaha! Well done! Now I'm sure that since you've seen how useful it can be, you'll be wanting me to teach one of your Pokemon headbutt, right? So which one'll it be?

(OOC: Okey dokey loke!)

O-Okay...

[She was just about to walk out, but then the tutor spoke, and ZOOM, right back behind the tree. Eep.]

[Twilight's eyebrow twitches, but she can't really deny the potential usefulness of this attack. She nods.]

Alright then, please teach Starswirl.

Hahaha! An excellent choice!

[The bulky tutor walks over to the unsure Kadabra and holds his hands over Starswirl's head, imparting knowledge of the technique in a way that makes about as much sense as the TMs.]

There you go! Remember, always try every tree you find during your journey! Who knows what you'll find!

[And with that, he claps Twilight on the shoulder, making her stagger, and hikes off towards Ilex Forest. Twilight takes a moment to steady herself.]

... I know people are weird in this world, but that was just bizarre.

[Once more, she tires to come out, looking around carefully to make sure there aren't any more weird Hikers around.]

At least he... helped you?

Well I can't really argue with that, but I've never heard of anyone so insistent on helping before. He was like Pinkie trying to get someone to come to a party.

[She looks at the Pokeball she just caught the Heracross in.]

Oh well, at least I got this out of it. Come on out, Heracross!

[She tosses the ball into the air and Heracross pops out, looking around curiously but no longer looking especially hostile.]

[Pokemon always make everything better. Instantly distracted, she walks up closer to greet and inspect their new friend.]

It's so nice to meet you, Heracross! What a big, strong bug you are...

Big indeed. He's like some sort of elephant or rhinoceros beetle.

[She leans down a bit to pat his head.]

I'll call you... Megasoma.

Mega...soma?

[She blinks, tilting her head. What does that mean?]

It's the first part of the scientific name for an elephant beetle. It basically means "enormous horn".

[Well, that's certainly accurate. Megasoma raises his horn in pride.]

[Oooh. She nods, and gives a little clap.]

What a great name! And now my bug Pokemon can have more bug friends. Hurray.

When we get back to the center we should introduce him to them. In the meantime... [She holds up the Pokeball and pulls Megasoma back in.] I'll let him rest.

Well, come on. We're pretty far out of town, so we've got to get moving if we want to be back inside Goldenrod before the sun sets.

A-huh! I'm right behind you, like I promised!

And I'll always appreciate that.

[She holds out a hand for Fluttershy to take as she starts walking back to Goldenrod.]

Speaking of which, thanks for coming out with me today.

[She takes the hand and walks with her.]

Well of course... it was part of my promise.

Well it's not like I expect you to come out with me every time I'm going to train. You've got the right to a life of your own, after all.

But I was going out further than usual this time, and if I ended up not getting back by nightfall... well, the last thing I want right now is to worry you.

Your life is my life. and I'm going to worry anyway... we both know I can be a really big worrywart.

[She can't help but laugh just a little at that.]

Yeah, you can. That's not a problem though. You worry because you care, and we all know it.

... Holy crap.

_{[Some of the Johto natives are just so... persistent.]}

... Yeah, that was pretty much my reaction too. Even for Johto, that was odd.

I swear, some of the people around here are total boneheads.

Well, at least he sort of has an excuse... he seems to make a living, or at least a hobby, out of bashing his head against trees.

I'm not sure that's an excuse so much as an extremely worrying explanation.

Maybe both.

He was helpful though, no matter how... strange.

That I did. And from what the Pokedex says he's quite a catch. Heracross seem to be a pretty powerful species.

I can believe that.

Looked like a Hercules Beetle or something.

I don't think I've ever head of that species before. Something from your world?

Uh, yeah, I guess so.

I keep forgetting not everybody has regular animals where they come from.

... Define "regular". We have thousands of types of animals in our world, some stranger than others.

... I guess 'regular' is relative.

Though I guess some things would be universally strange... like Parasprites.

... What's a Parasprite?

An adorable little creature that looks like a ball with wings.

It also eats everything in sight and reproduces incredibly rapidly.

... Sounds obnoxious.

That's putting it incredibly mildly.

Do you have anything like it where you come from?

Yeah.

Rabbits.

Rabbits? We have them back where I come from and they've never been all that much of a problem.

Well, I mean, I've never had a problem with them. But the phrase 'multiply like rabbits' exists for a reason.

Other than them... I dunno.

Locusts?

Hmmm... that's actually a good point. If we didn't have ponies like Fluttershy around keeping them in check, I can see where they could be quite a problem.

[Like that one rabbit stampede Applejack managed to cause.]

Oh, Locusts. I haven't actually seen them, but I've heard and read stories. Yeah, they sound horrible.

Oh, that's her job? Appropriate.

_{[Heather hasn't talked to the pink-haired girl a TON, but if there was ever a personality more suited to taking care of a bunch of fluffy bunnies, it's probably THAT.]}

Yeah.

They're even considered a plague.

Like, that status is normally reserved for diseases.

Oh, you've met her? Yes, she's an animal caretaker back home. With the sort of experience she has, she'd probably be a very, very good trainer if she weren't adamantly against letting her Pokemon fight, truth be told.

[Sometimes it's a pity she's such a pacifist, really.]

A plague of locusts... that sounds poetic. Sure conjures up some nasty mental images.

N'yeah.

Not that I've ever seen one, but according to like... every culture's history ever, they're pretty brutal.

[Oh, probably. It's a pretty easy thing to do.]

Every culture? Wow, so they're not only destructive, they're also widespread. That's pretty awful.
