Princess Celestia has a younger sister, Princess Luna, who was banished from Equestria long ago due to... very extenuating circumstances. It's odd, it's all technically common knowledge, but it feels like I'm divulging secrets when I talk about it. Still, the point is that her banishment recently ended, and seems to have been always set to come to an end. And a realm can only have one king or queen, but there's no such limit on the number of princes or princesses.

Hence my theory, that she refrained from taking the title as a symbol of her acceptance for her sister's return, so that they could rule as equals when the time came.

Just under 7 billion? [It's very hard to properly convey her astonishment through text.] You must cover your entire planet! But then, as the only species with sapience that would be a much easier feat for you than us...

Disease, yes, but the number of diseases out there that can't be treated in some form is small and growing smaller steadily thanks to the efforts of numerous researchers around the country dedicated to finding cures and vaccines. Of course, occasional outbreaks from outside our borders do come through at times, but our knowledge is growing a little more every day, and bit by bit we're learning how to fight even the deadliest diseases.

Corruption isn't actually as much a problem as simple incompetence, really. Not that greedy, immoral ponies don't exist, and of course sometimes they do get into positions of power, but the voices of the ponies who are affected by their actions are usually heard rather quickly, and if it comes to it, ponies can bring their grievances straight to the Princesses. Even the threat of that kind of action tends to get all but the most ruthless in line.

And crime, again, it's not as if we don't know it, but every area has dedicated peace officers, neighborhood watches, security... really, any crime above petty theft is nigh-impossible to get away with for any length of time.

Really, we ponies live a very charmed life, back in Equestria. You'd almost think there was never anything to worry about beyond usual life problems, and usually, you'd be right.

The problem lies in when something upsets all of that. Because usually, when something tries? It's something very, very big. And dangerous.

And evil.
